Landscaping Project - New Barnet, Barnet

This project in High Barnet started with a garden that had gradually become difficult to use and hard to maintain. The space was uneven, cluttered, and overgrown, with a mix of old paving, planting beds, and makeshift features that didn’t work together. While there was plenty of potential, the layout made the garden feel smaller and more enclosed than it needed to be, and large areas weren’t being used at all.

The first step was clearing the site back completely so we could properly assess the space. Existing paving, planters, and excess vegetation were removed, allowing us to strip the garden back to a clean base. This stage was important for understanding ground conditions, levels, and how water moved across the site. Once cleared, the garden immediately felt more open, giving us a clear starting point for reshaping the space properly.

With the garden stripped back, we focused on preparing the ground to ensure the new layout would last. The sub-base was built up and compacted to create a stable foundation, with levels carefully set to support drainage and prevent future pooling. Taking the time at this stage meant the finished garden wouldn’t just look good on completion day, but would continue to perform well through changing weather and regular use.

Once the groundwork was complete, we began forming the new layout. A raised section was created to define the main lawn area, with solid edging installed to give clean lines and long-term structure. New paved steps were introduced to connect the different levels, making the garden easier to move through and giving the space a clearer sense of order rather than feeling flat and undefined.

The final stage was all about finishes. Artificial turf was installed to create a low-maintenance lawn that stays usable throughout the year, while new fencing was fitted to provide privacy and a clean boundary around the garden. These elements helped frame the space and gave it a finished, considered look rather than something temporary or pieced together.

The completed garden is now a simple, well-organised outdoor space that feels open, practical, and easy to maintain. What was once an overgrown and awkward area has been transformed into a clean, level garden suited to everyday use, whether that’s relaxing, entertaining, or family time. The focus throughout was on creating a space that works properly and will continue to do so for years to come.
